Victim's husband praises prosecutor 10/18/2006 By Jon Murray The Indianapolis Star
A man whose wife was slain three years ago praised Prosecutor Carl Brizzi this afternoon for his office's handling of the case and urged voters to reelect the Republican next month.
John Dickerson, 32, spoke with Brizzi at a news conference at Indiana Republican Party headquarters in Downtown Indianapolis. Brizzi is running against Democrat Melina Kennedy, a former deputy mayor.
Dickerson had been married to Leslie, 25, for 18 months when a coworker at their Far Eastside Boston Market restaurant stabbed her to death. She had rejected his advances.
As Abraham Maya's case made its way to the system -- ending with a plea agreement and 75-year prison sentence -- Brizzi supported the family, Dickerson said, and consulted with them. The two have kept in touch ever since, Brizzi said.
"I saw dedication put into my case," Dickerson said. "I just have to believe all the other victims' families receive the same treatment."
